Join our team! The DeKalb County History Center would not be possible without the help of our volunteers. Volunteers receive special benefits and can help in a variety of areas.

 

2026 Historic Homes Tour

Calling all volunteers! We are actively recruiting volunteers to help at the annual "house walk" at Pumpkin Fest on Saturday, October 24. Choose from a 9:45 am - 1:15 pm or 12:45 - 4:15 pm time slot! You will be assigned your "house" at the Volunteer Training Meeting on Saturday, October 17, at 10:00 am. Interested? Sign up through the Sign Up Genius button below or call us at 815-895-5762.

Archives, Collection Assistants:
Accessioning and cataloging artifacts, filing paper materials, labeling artifacts photographing, uploading materials to the website, transcribing cursive, and making entries in the museum database.
Research Specialist and Assistants:
Locate information electronically as well as items in the collection and archives.
Receptionists and Greeters: Welcoming visitors, collecting admission, gift shop sales and hlep with mailing and copying.

Program Support Assistants: Set-up & clean up of space, tables and chairs for programs.

Garden Workers Help DeKalb County Master Gardeners maintain flower beds & gardens on campus. Maintaining vegetable gardens with local groups and take product to local food pantry.

Sycamore Farmers Market: Help staff and vendors set-up, tear-down,  support parking, or work our History Center information booth (training provided). 

Museum: Docents (leads tours for visitors). Training provided.
Property: Assisting with general maintenance inside and outside the building.

Junior Volunteers: 6th graders through high school, these volunteers help with summer programs and support special programs.

Internships

Get hands-on with the DeKalb County History Center! Internships with DCHC will give you firsthand experience in museum and nonprofit settings. Internships can be completed for credit with your college or university. Positions include the departments of exhibits and fundraising.
