Greenwood Cemetery Walk

Some think that the dead tell no stories but you will find out differently at The Hinckley Historical Society’s second cemetery walk on Sunday Sept. 24 at Greenwood Cemetery. Hinckley residents will assume the role of their featured person and share interesting stories about their life. There will also be a dedication of a monument for Fannie Patterson who was buried in 1920 without a marker. HHS spearheaded the drive to honor Fannie as the first Black graduate of Hinckley High and what is now Northern Illinois University. NIU recently named their newest dormitory after Fannie to honor her example, dedication to help others and persistence over many difficulties.

The walking tour will start at 3 p.m.—rain or shine—so dress accordingly.  There is no charge for the tour but donations will be accepted to support our programming. Greenwood Cemetery is located on Somonauk Road a half mile south of Rt. 30. The HHS museum will be open following the walk until 5 p.m. Come tour the twenty decades exhibits of significant events in our area.
