Community Read/Book Discussion – “Stella by Starlight” by Sharon Draper

The next program in the Arts in Action series is a Community Read featuring the book, Stella by Starlight by Sharon Draper. This story written for young adults, but an interesting read for all ages, takes place in North Carolina during the 1930s. Topics include racial discrimination, voting intimidation and social separation, but also a strong sense of community during difficult times for Black families. Copies of the book are available at the Sycamore Public Library and the DeKalb Public Library.

This is the first of three book discussions will explore the book and local history connections: Sycamore Public Library, February 11 at 2:00 p.m., DeKalb County History Center on March 2 at Noon and at the DeKalb Public Library on March 16 at 6:00 p.m.
