Brown Bag Lunch Series: Remembering the GoodTymes

Long-time Sycamore residents often share recollections about the rodeo, Kids’ Day Parade, and the old Drive-In Theater. However, one of the fondest memories for many people were the Good Tymes picnics. Learning more about this epic summer tradition during the Thursday, September 4 Brown Bag lunch.

Running from the 1970s-1980s this annual event attracted thousands of people each year. The event was held in different places throughout the county and included an annual t-shirt, music, and lots of good food! And yes, the Sycamore Park District’s “Good Tymes” shelter is part of the story. During this Brown Bag, there will be a video that includes interviews from several of committee members and attendees, along with photos that show all the “good times” that were had over the years.

After the video there will be time for people to ask questions, look at some memorabilia, and share stories.

The September 4 Brown Bag lunch will start at 12:00 at the DeKalb County History Center, 1730 N. Main Street. This monthly program is hosted in partnership with the Ellwood House and sponsored by the Mary E. Stevens Concert and Lecture fund.
