Brown Bag Lecture: “Off to School: Then and Now”

“Then” and “Now”: two words that are often used together. From slate and chalk in
the 1800s to smart phones and AI today, “then and now” in education has amazing contrasts.
Technology has enhanced education, but has it changed the fundamentals?

On Thursday, August 7th at noon, join North Grove School Association board member Merla
Hammack at Ellwood House Museum for a free lecture: “Off to School: Then and Now.” The
Association preserves and maintains the history of Sycamore’s North Grove School, in operation
in DeKalb County from 1878 until 1952.

“Off to School: Then & Now” is part of the Brown Bag Lunch Lecture Series, free monthly
programs offered in collaboration by the Ellwood House Museum and DeKalb County History
Center. Registration is not necessary, and participants are welcome to bring lunch and eat during
the program.
