DeKalb Library and Glidden Homestead’s “Annie’s Story Time”

Join DeKalb Public Library for a fun children’s story time at the historic Glidden Homestead!

“Annie’s Story Time” will be held on the grounds of the Glidden Homestead, 921 W. Lincoln Highway in DeKalb (next to Glidden Florist.) Story time will be held from 1-1:30 pm on the first Sunday of each month: September 3, October 1, November 5 and December 3. Each date will have a special theme.

Guests are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on the lawn. These interactive story times feature songs, movement and more. The program is free for all attendees.  Stick around after the program for tours of the historic Glidden Homestead and blacksmithing demonstrations.

Annie’s Story Time is named for Joseph F. Glidden’s niece, Annie Glidden, who was a major promoter of DeKalb’s cultural and social causes during her lifetime. In 1898, seeing the need to supply the recently formed DeKalb Public Library with good books, Annie formed the Library Whist Club. On Monday afternoons, this group of women came together to play the card game whist. Monies from their membership dues were used for library book purchases. To date, the library has received over 10,000 volumes from their activities.
